Rev. Dr Dan Sandu graduated from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Bucharest in 1992. Following an examination, he became Graduate Reader, then Assisting Lecturer at Dumitru Staniloae Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Iasi, at the Chair of History and Philosophy of Religions. Dr Dan Sandu became part of the teaching staff of the “Dumitru Staniloae” Faculty of Orthodox Theology in 1993, becoming a Reader in Dogmatics of the Chair of Systematic Theology in 2001. He was also appointed Director of the St. Nicholas Ecumenical Institute, a position that involves both didactic activity and the promotion of theological dialogue and representation by the specific missionary activity the Church is pursuing in the contemporary context. Another aspect of Prof. Dan Sandu’s academic activity involved organising seminars, roundtable discussions and talks on ecumenical issues under the aegis of St. Nicholas Ecumenical Institute. It is worth mentioning the particular task granted by the Church hierarchs: to promote inter-Christian, inter-Orthodox and inter-Church relations with relevant organisations and representatives from Romania and abroad. In October 1999, he defended his doctoral thesis, Mystical Life and Knowledge: Christianity and Islam in the First Centuries of Coexistence, when he was awarded the title of “Doctor of Theology” of the University of Bucharest Chair of History and Philosophy of Religions. The paper has been published. Currently, Rev. Dr Dan Sandu is translating Samuel Harakas` Living the Faith and preparing a course book on Dogmatic Theology and a paper on the dogmatic foundations of Orthodox Iconography.
